Selene heard Gertrude's shout and readied her bow, She took aim warned those around to get out the way and loosened her arrow, not to kill the merc but wound whoever it was. the arrow struck the mercs lower leg, sending the merc to the ground. going over she crouched over and was surprised to find that the merc was actually a woman. What was one long blonde hair was now roughly cut to a short style.

She waited for the others to come back and hauled the woman up "You have some explaining to do" her voice was cold and emotionless, her concerns lay else where not the dead fat cats that thought they ruled Amaranthine. However, as she explained to the others, the third body was that of a lord. That meant more trouble.

"You dont get it" the woman spat "My brother was innocent, my brother was killed for that stinking captain of the guard and her corrupt friends, i don't expect you to understand the value of family!"

Selene understood all to well, her thoughts about her brother sit heavy in her heart, and she knew what she had done to those involved in what had happened to him and the others. But when the woman spat the Captain even the usually laid back Silver Knight was stunned into silence. She looked at the others. "You saying that Captain Cragan, the commander of the City Guard hanged a man for what being in the wrong place at the wrong time?" She shook her head "I think we need to go to the Seneschal" She told them "This is way above my pay grade"

Colm did not want to hear this, he did not want to hear that his former Captain may have been more than he thought. The Cragans were not like that, none of them were. Sure Fiona was older then Kyla and she was a little more hard round the edges, but still, these were just lies tripping off the tongue of a murderess and he would see justice delivered in the proper fashion.

"She's lying" he said through gritted teeth "Captain Cragan would never sully her hands in such a way, sure the Seneschal would know but i say we take her to Cragan"

Lessa listened to both Selene and Colm and not coming from Amaranthine, she held the view of an outsider looking in. She knew the Cragans reputations but still.

"Colm" She told him quietly "As distasteful as it sounds to you about your former Commander, you cannot dismiss her words based on the fact Cragan wouldn't do it"

Everyone in the Silver Order knew that the Major and the Noblewoman did not get along. In fact if it weren't for her friends keeping her grounded then Lessa might have put Kyla on her arse by now. She had no problem with being called Caradas, she had a problem with how it was said. "If she has proof then we take it to the Seneschal, his would be the most objective voice, if not she gets thrown it the cells and awaits a trial of her peers."

Lessa looked around them and saw the crowd watching "and we better do it now before it gets ugly"

((ooc. @Zhavirah you still wanna have Ramon in this? will be in the next post or two?))

Agreeing with Selene and Lessa, Gertrude added, "Either way, that's not for us to decide if she's telling the truth, and obviously it can't be up to Captain Cragan too. If the seneschal doesn't think there's any point in hearing her out - great. Regardless, she'll be punished for what she's done. You don't get to murder people just because your family was wronged," the last part she said directly to the killer. She spoke from experience, her own family was massacred when she was a child, but nothing in her  chastising tone betrayed that.

"What should we do with that on, though?" she asked, pointing at the boy standing next to Lessa and trying to look invisible, "I'm not even sure he committed any crime..."

"used as bait. Accessory maybe"selene mused." okso we go to the seneschal tell him what we know. Keep it away from fiona for now." she gave colm.an apologetic look "until we know what we are dealing with. The last thing we need is another plot against Guthrie"

"I can prove it" the prisoner rasped "and I'll show uou"

selene arched an eyebrow and hauled the merc to her feet "reallyyyyy this i have to See"

Tired of waiting around on the roof and deciding that there was no one else hiding in the shadows, Cyan made her way down just in time to hear the end of the conversation. "So we take them all in," she said, grabbing the boy by the arm. A glare from Cyan was enough to have him looking to his feet in shame.

"I got this one," she assured the others. She had barely heard the argument about the Cragens, but knew it was best to have an impartial judge in a case like this, lest they get themselves in trouble. "Let's get goin' then."

Colm glanced at the murderess and shoved her in the direction that would take them to the Seneschal. "Proof, what damn proof could you possibly have to back up what you say?" He wanted to know. He had been born and raised in these lands, the Cragans were as much a part of Amaranthine as the trees that grew. Whenever the Arl was away, Kyla was an astounding and honourable Arlesssa.

"How about the man who died was my brother, he was a former Chantry lay brother who had taken a vow of Chasteness" The woman snarled shrugging herself from Colms grip "he overheard a plot to overthrow the Arl and was killed to stop him from getting in the way, your fucking Captain Cragan was paid top coin by the merchants and the lower nobles to put an end to the matter!" She narrowed her eyes "All nobles are as bad as each other, plot and plan then when it comes down to maybe getting caught make sure they are not implicated"

Colm glanced at Alessandra who's expression went from serious to simmering anger in a heart beat "Not all Nobles" he muttered "You better have more then your word, or I'll pull the damn noose myself!"

Gertrude put a calming (at least it was supposed to be calming) hand on Colm's shoulder. "We're not pulling any noose, Colm," she whispered, "We're Silver Order, not the Guard."

Then she told the murderer, "Do you actually have anything other than rumours and theories to back your claims? Because I'm starting to agree that handing you over to the Guard might not be a bad idea."

Alessandra had remained quiet all through the exchange. She even took to walking behind them, she was not so naive to think that all nobles held her beliefs, there was Tyern Black for that example of a Noble that used any means possible to get what he wanted when he wanted. She did however take exception to being tarred with the same brush by a murderess.

Whether her accusations were true or not. "Where are your lodgings?" Lessa suddenly asked

"Why?"

"Because you are going to show us this proof or i am going to let my friend Gertrude here hand you over to the Captain of the Guard and we can go back to enjoying our evening" The words were polite enough but there was an edge to the Noblewoman's tone that brokered no argument.

"No need" The woman patted her pouch which was about to be taken by Colm when Lessa stopped him.

"Not here Colm." She motioned to the stables "Over there, just in case there is a grain of truth to the matter, why don't you go topside with Cyan to keep watch" She nodded encouragingly and taking what the woman gave her she opened it and stood beside Gertrude, reading the contents she handed the letters to her. Names, dates and places and payments made, all to the Guard Captain and her chosen men.

"This does not look good my friend" She whispered.

Cyan didn’t like the exchange going on one bit. She truthfully thought they should hand the woman over to the guard, but did not say anything on the matter. If there was something fishy going on, then it was their duty to find out. As a former guard, she wanted them to be free of corruption, working for the safety of the people. If there was someone tarnishing their name…

So she remained silent and when Lessa nodded to the stables, Cyan nodded, tugging the boy along with her. “Get what you need, we’ll keep watch. Give us the signal when you’re ready to go,” she told Lessa, before shoving the boy to Colm and dragging them both along with her.

Colm grumbled and muttered under his breath he still did not believe for one moment that his former Captain was corrupt. He climbed up top and sat on the roof, bow in his hand. He really really hoped that someone would make the snake out to be a liar and then they could hand her over to the guard and be done with her.

This was turning into a long long night.

Selene glanced at Alessandra "May i beautiful?" She flashed her a quick smile. Selene liked the young noblewoman and although it had taken her a little while to get used to calling her anything but My lady, she genuinely appreciated the fact that the heir of her homeland was not so above getting her hands dirty alongside those that worked with her.

She took the parchment and read it. Clear as day in the handwriting of a scribe was the payments made to the Guard Captain. Selene scratched her nose and shook her head "What we need to do is get into this persons house, get some more evidence and then take it to the Seneschal. With the upheaval here and at the Keep there is no guarantee we can keep the prisoner." She gave the rogue a pointed look "safe until then. I would suggest handing her over to Ramon and getting his take on this, if there is a plot against the Arl it becomes our business and not the Guards. If the Guard has a dirty hierarchy then it becomes our duty," Selene glanced at Cyan and Colm as they made thier way up top "Even if it is going to break a couple of hearts along the way"

Lessa blushed a little when Selene called her beautiful, maybe because she really didn't feel it with all the weariness around them all. She scowled a little when she listened to the senior Knights words and had to admit she had a point, a pretty good point as it went.

"We better head off to the Seneschals office then" She sighed "He'll know who to look for and where cause i sure as hell dont" Lessa shook her head "you really think these two will need protecting?" She saw Selene nod her head and looked at Gertrude "What do you think?"

"Anything can happen Colm," Cyan muttered in a dull tone. She didn't like the turn of events either, for she had great respect for the guard captain, but if she was doing something shady then it was their duty to uncover it, especially as former members of the guard. "We cannot turn a blind eye and deny it just because our emotions revolt against the idea. We owe it to everyone to do this job correctly and get down to the truth."

If that meant exposing their former captain for treason, then so be it. Maker be kind to her if it were true.

Colm didn't really say a lot he just watched the road around them, Cyan was right of course but the Cragans had a history with the city, hell with the Arling and he was utterly convinced that his former Captain would not be involved in anything so heinous. It went against everything they knew about her and the family.

"Documents can be forged Cyan" he murmured "and when we discover that then the woman in there can face justice for what she has done"

Gertrude nodded in reply to Lessa's question, adding quietly, "Actually, the more I think about it, her claims don't even have to be true for her to need protection. Someone might just get nervous and shut her up, even if it's all lies. It won't be much of a terrible loss, but that's not justice either."

Selene listened to both women and motioned with her head, "Sooner we get this person of interest to the Seneschal, the sooner this sorry mess can be cleared up and we can go back to our normal duties" Selene also wanted to head over to the Keep and check on her brother and this was delaying it.

"Sooner we do this and get this cleared up, the sooner i can go check on my brother" All off them knew her brother was also Gilly's partner, or he had been, it seemed only her and Lessa knew the real truth behind that, but Selene, as protective as she had become of Callum, made sure she stayed outside that can of worms. While they made sure their prisoner was tied and protected as they made the walk towards the Seneschals office Selene stopped beside Lessa "Did she go see him?" She whispered.

Lessa fell into step with the Red Head and nodded "Aye, don't know when tho i was in in the deep" She heaved a sigh, she had found Gilly the other side of the city but she had not and would not tell anyone what transpired between the two of them. No matter who they were. It was why they were friends.

The Seneschals office loomed, the five Silver Knights escorting two prisoners. Ramon would know what to do now, and while they waited for him to call them in Lessa looked out the window, everything was in chaos and for the first time in her life, she thought she knew what a war zone looked like.

Visitors was the last thing on his mind as he suddenly heard the footsteps followed by a knock. The footsteps weren't rare, guards, servants and more walked these halls up and down. None of those bothered to knock on his door however. "Come in" Ramon spoke without getting up. Not that he was rude, it was his back that ached. Bending over paperwork wasn't ideal for your body...

"This,- can I get an explanation?" he stammered as it were in fact Silver order knights awaiting his attention...with two prisoners, tonight was going to be interesting for sure.

Colm cleared his throat and slowly, although he was nervous at directing his report to the Seneschal, he told Ramon everything, from the fight in an abandoned Warehouse with rebel Silver Order Knights, to the murders of three merchants and then, after taking the paper from Lessa said.

"Sir, this...woman here, says that the Guard Captain framed an innocent man for the rape and murder of a young woman a few months ago and claims this paper has the names of those receiving payments from the Merchants of the City to cover up some sort of power struggle amongst themselves and possibly against His Grace"

Colm still did not think Fiona was involved, but, when all was said and done, the merchants whose names Lessa had kindly read to him, were suspected of being involved in a plot against the Arl around the same time as the assassination attempt and, funnily enough now he came to think about it, around the same time that they had been ambushed with the Arl on the road to Denerim some months back now.

Selene had to give Colm credit, they had opted to let him speak, and the poor lad looked like he was about to fall through a hole he was that nervous. Selene, however saw in him and indeed Cyan Gilly, and Lessa as well as Gertrude the future of the Order.  Cyan pretty much had a personality of her own and it was a fun one. Lessa had one that merged her noble blood and the slight common element that had crept in with working with those who were not born with a silver spoon in thier mouths. Whenever she became the next Bann she was going to be a damn good one in Selenes opinion.

Gilly, well whatever was going on with her would sort itself out in time she supposed, or at least she hoped. Shit happened people reacted differently to different things, and from what Gertrude and Lessa had told her on the ride over, it was hardly surprising that the Marcher had acted the way she did. If Selene had been there herself then they would all be dead and hanging by thier entrails.

Gertrude, well Gertrude was the personification of an Exemplar and humble Knight. She may have needed to lighten up a little and Maker knew when this was over they all needed a break, right now though, she was happy to let Colm or even Cyan take the lead, they had after all served with Fiona Cragan before they became Silver Order Knights and thus, pperhaps knew her best. Selene however was thinking on the long term. IF if turned out Fiona Cragan was dirty, then it would reflect on Kyra, and that would not be a good thing at all, even the hint of corruption within a familyn as old as the Cragans would be enough to have everyone baying for thier blood. The people of Amaranthine had had enough of being linked to traitors and turncoats. This might tip them over the edge.

Cyan stood quietly in the doorway behind the group and the prisoners, her fists clenched and eyes open for any sign that the prisoners were about to run. Even if they couldn’t likely escape their bonds, she was wary of such a thing. Besides, she was always willing to punch someone who needed it and after the stress of this night, she greatly wanted to do so. Colm could do all of the talking, she would be the muscle tonight.

It was for the best as well, for the possibility of betrayal from their former commander hurt her as much as it did Colm. It was difficult for the elf-blooded guard to accept it, but she knew it could happen. She had seen enough in her years to know it was so.

Sadly, the pieces seemed to fit well enough for it to not seem forged however. She wondered how the Seneschal would handle this…

Lessa gave the Seneschal the paperwork that thier prisoner had given them, then with a shove to the shoulder, she got the woman to again tell the Seneschal exactly what she had told them. Like most Silver Order Knights Lessa had a good memory, she also had a long one wether that was just down to her or her genes she had no idea.

The Prisoner identified herself now as Kara McKenzie, and, word for word told the Seneschal the same story she had told the Knights. How her brother had been fitted for a crime he did not commit. He had been a brother of the Chantry, he had been a man of the maker was chaste and scared of women.

Lessa glared at her "Tell him about what you think happened" She growled, her mood a little darker at the moment, she had not really had much time to get away from this place after all that had happened and all she wanted now was to go home, sit in a lake and wash the stink of the Deep Roads, Traitor wardens, Guards and Silver Order off her.

While Kara explained Lessa pointed out the payments on the letter. "The men were suspected months ago of being involved in the assassination attempt on the Arl but were cleared. The woman that died was the daughter of a merchant who would not deal with these higher ranked Merchants" She glanced at the others "We thought you might know what too do about this sir, it is after all a rather delicate situation giving what this lady is accusing the Captain of the Guard of doing"

"i am telling you she covered it up" Mackenzie snarled "and i recognise you! All Nobles stick together, you'll sweep it under the carpet like it was done before"

Lessa snarled under her breath and looked like she was about to throw the woman through the wall.
